Preparing Your Elevator Speech by Dale Kurow
So, what's an elevator speech, and how do you get one?
What Is It?
An elevator speech is a short (15-30 second, 150 word) sound bite that succinctly and memorably introduces you. It spotlights you uniqueness. It focuses on the benefits you provide. And it is delivered effortlessly.
Elevator speeches are intended to prepare you for very brief, chance encounters in an elevator. But elevator speeches are not just for elevators! You should use it whenever you want to introduce yourself to a new contact. That could be in the supermarket, waiting in line at an ATM or when you get your morning latte.

Value-Added Network by Russ Kovar
A value-added network can be achieved through explicit actions to develop, expand, and promote trusted relationships. One successful example is Thomas Powers, the founder and chairman of ecademy, one of the largest UK-based business networks. His passion and commitment to networking compares to none; he is ranked among the top business networkers in the world. Ecademy's philosophy is "Winning by Sharing", a theme of paramount importance. Donna Fisher and Sandy Vilas, of Power Networking, define networking as: “Networking is making links from people we know to people they know, in an organized way, for a specific purpose, while remaining committed to doing our part, expecting nothing in return.”

Selling vs. Networking by Judy Austin
What comes to mind when I say the term “Networking”? When asked this question, many professionals respond only with scrunched up faces and looks of distaste. Then one brave soul will say out loud “it’s trying to sell others”. STOP right there Kemo Sabe! I have heard enough. We will debunk that misperception right here and right now!
Networking in its purest form is about building relationships with others. Regardless of the motivation or intent, networking is an avenue to meet and establish a level of trust among people.
